Fab Lab Madrid CEU will be presenting a paper entitled “USING DRONES, 3D MODELING AND DIGITAL FABRICATION TECHNOLOGIES TO PROMOTE ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE ” at ICERI 2019 (International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation) that will be held in Seville, Spain next November 11th-13th.

ICERI is one of the largest international education conferences for lecturers, researchers, technologists and professionals from the educational sector. It has become a reference event where more than 700 experts from 80 countries will get together to present their projects and share their knowledge on teaching and learning methodologies and educational innovations.

During the conference Fab Lab Madrid CEU will present a case study that shows how the use of low-cost drones, made using digital fabrication technologies, and photogrammetry software can be employed to create photo-realistic 3D models of large scale archaeological remains to promote archaeological and architectural heritage. The case study included faculty and students of CEU University’s Institute of Technology involved on a course that is running in Fab Lab Madrid CEU, the digital fabrication laboratory based at the university. The course is part of an Advance Diploma in Digital Fabrication for Architectural Design that allows on-site and remote access to Fab Lab technologies through the NEWTON project platform, in order to design and fabricate low-cost drones to be used by students during the course to create 3D models of archaeological sites, merging history and technology to promote cultural heritage.
