Brief Bio
Dr. Cristina Muntean is actively involved in research in the areas of adaptive e-learning, game-based learning, adaptive hypermedia, learner’s motivation, energy saving solutions, and adaptive multimedia over wireless networks areas. She is constantly involved not only in the Irish research community, but also in the international research community. She acts as a partner in various research projects submitted for EU funding calls in collaboration with other European universities, research centres and companies. She is a technical programme committee member and reviewer for various prestigious conferences and journals, and as a PhD/Master external examiner for research theses submitted for examination at various European Universities.
Gebremariam Mesfin
Brunel University London

Brief Bio
Dr. Gebremariam Mesfin is a ‘Research fellow’ in the Department of Computer Science at Brunel University London, where he has been working under the Horizon 2020 NEWTON project since 2017. From 2009 to 2016, he served as an Assistant Professor at Aksum University; and from 2004 to 2009 he served as a Lecturer at Mekelle University, Ethiopia and taught courses like programming languages, distributed systems, software project management, artificial intelligence, data science, and mobile application development. Over all, he has 10+ years teaching, research, and enterprise (community) service experience in higher education institutions. He received a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Computer Science from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia in 2000 and 2004, respectively. He received his Ph.D. in Information Technology (Software Engineering Track) from Addis Ababa University in 2016. He has published research conference and journal papers in e-learning, software engineering, usability, cross-platform smartphone applications, multimedia, mulsemedia, Web service, and service-oriented architecture. Dr. Gebremariam has collaborated with doctoral students in mulsemedia, user experience, and wearable devices; and also advised Master students in areas like expert systems.

SCOPE

Many European countries are already concerned about young people disengagement from STEM and therefore many initiatives have been developed throughout Europe to carry out innovative teaching and learning approaches at different levels trying to reverse this process.

The use of Technology enhanced Learning (TEL) approach in teaching and learning creates engaging classrooms in STEM subjects, demystifies the pre-conceived idea among learners that science technologies, engineering and maths topics are difficult, improves learning outcome and increases student motivation and engagement.
The TEL-STEM workshop is an opportunity for teachers and researchers from schools, universities, colleges and companies to share and discuss innovative practices, research initiatives and approaches that enhance face to face and online teaching practices in STEM education. We envision that the TEL-STEM 2018 will be the starting point for an annual meeting on STEM researches at future EC-TEL conferences.
Front-line researchers and authors are invited to submit original research work and state of the art review on the use of TEL in STEM education.
